Devon Tithe Barns

Tithe Barns were medieval structures built to store tithes – a system of taxation enforced by the church whereby one tenth of a farmer’s produce was offered as payment. Joseph Rogers, author of the 2021 book Tithe Barns, talks about their origins and construction, as well as their use in later centuries with a focus on those that remain today. Joseph lived in East Devon for 15 years and will cover notable Devon examples as well as some in surrounding counties.
